Seeds or clones?
What are the differences between seeds and clones? Which is more favorable for beginner Cannabis growers?
Clones
Clones replicate the exact same genetics as the plant they came from, without the use of seeds. This is a tremendous advantage in saving resources. They can also guarantee the most similar reproduction of a strain.
That’s why they’re very practical for commercial growers that manage a good number of plants.
But their growth structure is different from plants that have grown from seeds. The root development and initial strength of a clone is very different. They take longer to expand a solid web of roots, so they much more fragile. For clones, environmental conditions like humidity and temperature need to be more controlled.
Seeds
Even if seeds are from the same strain, the phenotype expression of each individual plant can differ –sometimes greatly. That means that genetics will have more difference in results than cloned plants, when grown in different biomes and during the years. Being more adaptable to conditions, plants that are grown from seeds resists more variable conditions, especially when they’re still small seedlings.
Seeds have more availability in a wide variety of strains. They can be found online and in dispensaries. They can even be ordered internationally and can be stored for years.
That’s why I recommend that beginner growers, start their experience with seeds. Even if the process of germination can be difficult for some people, the advantages of this option are overall simpler.
